The largest rural lifestyle retailer in the United States recently joined the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s Green Power Partnership. Tractor Supply uses more than 61 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of green electricity per year, which is enough to cover 15% of the company’s electricity consumption.

Earlier this year, Tractor Supply set new sustainability goals to reduce carbon emissions, while committing to achieve net zero emissions in its operations by 2040. Green energy supply for stores and distribution centers is the main element of its Scope 2 emissions strategy.

Green energy is electricity produced from environmentally preferable renewable resources, such as wind, solar, geothermal, biogas, qualifying biomass, and low-impact hydropower. By moving the needle in the voluntary green energy market, Tractor Supply and other green energy partners are helping to reduce the negative health impacts of air emissions, especially those related to ozone, fine particles. , acid rain and regional haze.

As of September 25, the company operated 1,967 Tractor Supply stores in 49 states. It also operated 177 Petsense stores in 23 states.

The Green Power Partnership is a partnership program that helps increase the use of green energy among U.S. organizations to advance the U.S. green power market and the development of these sources as a means of reducing pollution from the air and other environmental impacts associated with the consumption of electricity. In 2020, the Partnership had more than 700 partners voluntarily using nearly 70 billion kilowatt-hours of green electricity per year.
