IKEA Bangalore store to open in April-May – Ultra News

Ikea, the Swedish-based global furniture retailer known for its frugal and efficient products, is set to open its third India mega store in Bangalore around April.

IKEA India CEO Peter Bezel said the company is on track to open its first store in Bangalore at “early summer”, making Bangalore the third city to have such a store after. Hyderabad and Mumbai.

The opening of the mega store in Bangalore will be followed by the grand opening of a smaller, urban-format store “shortly thereafter,” Bezel said in an interview with Economic News Channel. CNBC TV18. He was speaking at the opening of the company’s first small-format store in India at Worli in Mumbai.

With store Worli, the iconic Swedish home furnishings retailer has brought the total number of its physical outlets in India to three, including mega store Navi Mumbai which opened in December last year.

IKEA began its expansion into the Indian market with its first large-format store in Hyderabad in August 2018. The sprawling store quickly broke several records, notably for the highest amount of food consumed in-store.

True to its Scandinavian roots, IKEA emphasizes function, utility and efficiency rather than appearance and grandeur, which has helped it create a strong affinity among customers looking for furniture that is good value for money, at the same time sturdy, useful and comfortable. The Scandinavians, due to their historic struggle with the elements in an icy geography, are renowned for their pragmatic and utilitarian approach to problem solving.

Regarding IKEA’s plans in India, Bezel said his company will continue to focus on both the smaller format as well as the traditional sprawling format.

Mumbai, for example, will get another ‘urban store’ over the next 12 months, while Bangalore’s expansion will also be a mix of the two.

The small-format store, like IKEA’s online store, will carry the full range of furniture available from IKEA India, but with limited inventory for immediate take-out.

Products that are not available for immediate sale can be ordered in store, and will be delivered to your home. Unlike a pure online model, the city store format allows the customer to touch and feel the item before making a decision.

For those located outside of these cities, customers can also order IKEA products online if the delivery address is currently in Pune, Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara or Bengaluru.

Bezel hinted that more cities would be added to the above list. “We have a long-term commitment to India and want to reach 200 million people by 2025 and 500 million in five years,” he said.
